Charity & Community
Each year, the Lodge's Master chooses a charity close to his heart to support during his year in the Chair — recent causes have ranged from children's hospitals and cancer support to armed forces charities. Separately, the L27 Memorial Fund has made annual donations since 1999 to five Greater London hospices: St Joseph's Hospice, Demelza House Children's Hospice, Princess Alice Hospice, Trinity Hospice, and St Christopher's Hospice.
In 2011, to mark its bicentenary, the Lodge drew on its historic Benevolent Fund to present £40,000 to the Freemasons’ Grand Charity, plus a further £1,000 to the Metropolitan Grand Master’s Cyberknife Appeal — a milestone gift reflecting two centuries of accumulated charitable tradition, distinct from the Lodge’s ongoing annual giving.
