Our Story

About Egyptian Lodge No.27

A historic London lodge founded in 1811, built on friendship, character and tradition.

Our heritage

Over two centuries of tradition

1755

The original warrant

The warrant from which this Lodge descends was first granted by the Atholl Grand Lodge, numbered 21 — the same number later revived for Egyptian Lodge.

1811

Lodge founded

On 20 June 1811, the dormant warrant was reopened as a private lodge. Its first order of business was proposing Mr William McDonald, a law stationer, as its first candidate for initiation.

2011

Bicentenary

The Lodge marked its 200th anniversary at Freemasons’ Hall, presenting £40,000 to the Freemasons’ Grand Charity from its Benevolent Fund, in the presence of the Pro Grand Master and Metropolitan Grand Master. Over a hundred brethren attended the celebration dinner afterwards.

Today

A thriving lodge

Egyptian Lodge No.27 continues to welcome new members at Freemasons’ Hall, London.

Sourced from the Lodge’s own history and public Masonic charity records — worth a final check against the Lodge’s own records before publishing.
